A light with innovative technology: HID and HID kits

HID stands for High-intensity discharge. High-intensity discharge lamps are used and are in the form of HID Kits. They are a type of gas-discharge that aims to produce light in the form an arc. The arc is formed between electrodes made up of tungsten or fused alumina tubes. The tube is full of noble gas and is contained in a metal. HID bulbs and HID lights have some applications. In comparison to the LED headlights which produce 300 lumens per watt, HID produces more lumens per watt. LED headlights bulbs have less brightness than the HID bulbs.

Comparison between HID and LED:
HID has some advantages over the LED lights, and some of them are given below with their reasons-
• Trapped light- The light is trapped more in HID as compared to LED. The light bounces back after striking the electrodes. LED trap less light compared to the HID as it is less energy efficient.
• Operating temperature- The warm-up time of LED is large and can withstand a temperature of 270 degrees whereas HID has got slow warm-up time. It can withstand a temperature of 480 degrees.
• Source efficiency- The source efficiency of LED is 100 lumens/ watt whereas the source efficiency of HID is 120 lumens/watt. HID bulbs have fewer losses from trapped light, inefficient ballast.

Since HID headlights have got a larger brightness output, they are more energy efficient. HID lights are very safe. They have less lifespan than the LED headlights but have an advantage that it can be used after the gas is refilled. The HID kits are emitted light at a very low voltage and reduce load on the system. They are used in automobiles and are frequently used because of the increased reliability. It also improves driver visibility. A single HID handles a job of two incandescent filaments. So, they are better than the LED bulbs and are safe.
